The use of English in Indonesian popular songs has become an increasingly visible linguistic phenomenon. English words, phrases, and sentences are frequently combined with Indonesian in song lyrics, particularly in contemporary popular music. This study aims to examine the forms, functions, and social meanings of English use in Indonesian popular songs based on previous studies. This research employs a qualitative approach using a systematic literature review method. Data were obtained from relevant academic studies discussing code switching and code mixing in Indonesian songs. Six studies published between 2019 and 2026 were examined and compared based on their research focus and findings. The results show that English is used in Indonesian popular songs in various forms, including inter sentential switching, intra sentential switching, tag switching, and code mixing. The use of English serves several functions, including expressing emotions, emphasizing particular messages, fulfilling lexical needs, attracting listeners, and expressing group identity. The findings also indicate that English use in Indonesian popular music is closely related to the development of youth culture and global cultural interaction. Therefore, the use of English in Indonesian songs should not simply be viewed as the replacement of Indonesian, but as a dynamic linguistic practice that reflects creativity, identity, and cultural change in contemporary Indonesian society
